This FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page attempts to address various questions regarding granite, marble and Jewel Marble and Granite Services.. While it is not intended to be a technical guide, references are given throughout the FAQ for those that would like additional, detailed information.
Here are commonly asked questions:
How does the ordering-process work?
Clients usually stop in our showroom and give us their countertop measurements/layout and we figure out how many square feet of granite that is needed. This can also be done via E-Mail/Fax or Telephone. We also do free in-home consultations.
After this, client makes their selection of granite color, and we go over everything that is required for the project. Once we know everything about the project, we will be able to give you an estimate.
Once the client decides to go ahead with the project, we visit their home, and take final measurement/template of the countertops.
Once the measurements are taken, granite selected, it typically takes 5-7 business days to fabricate & install your countertops.
Installation typically takes 3 hours.
What is granite?
Granite is the hardest of all building stones with a very close grain, making it almost impervious to stain and uniquely applicable for any interior use, and if polished, is ideal for countertops and flooring applications. Granite is the most durable countertop and flooring material and gives you the best return on your investment.
Is granite a do-it-yourself product?
Granite fabrication is a specialized trade that requires extensive training and practice in order to produce high-quality results - not to mention the expensive diamond tooling and equipment. Jewel employs fabricators and installers with years of training and experience. Even a small vanity countertop can weigh over one hundred pounds, so safe handling is another concern that you need not worry about when buying from Jewel.
Do you offer other types of finished edges?
Jewel's standard finished edge profile included in all base pricing is either a basic "eased and polished" straight edge or beveled edge. The straight edge profile maximizes the bold appearance and quality of 3cm thick material. We offer other edge profiles for a nominal charge - depending on the shape and finishing time required. Are there additional colors available?
Our standard and expanded inventory color selections represent the most popular design colors. Jewel maintains a constant inventory of our standard colors so that any project - large or small - can be fulfilled quickly from available inventory.

Can you re-connect my electrical and plumbing connections?
Jewel is a highly trained and licensed contractor for granite countertops, but we are not licensed electricians or plumbers. Therefore, we can not assume any liability for making electrical or plumbing connections. We can, in most instances however, recommend reputable and licensed individuals or companies to complete these tasks for you.
Will my granite have visible seams?
Most granite installations will require at least one or more joints called seams. During layout and design, Jewel will always try to minimize the number of seams required. When seams are necessary, we will locate them in areas of less traffic to minimize their appearance. Finally, Jewel is trained to color-match the epoxy joining adhesive to minimize the appearance of the visible seams.
How often do I need to re-apply stone sealer?
An easy "rule of thumb" is to closely monitor the area around the sink. If you begin notice water that does not bead up or soaks into the stone within 10-15 minutes, then it's probably time to re-seal. Applying a sealer is easy, you can apply a liberal amount of sealer in the evening before going to bed and just let it penetrate and cure overnight.
